
'Dizziness' (any unusual sensation in the head) or 'Vertigo' the sensation that you, or the world around you, is moving; often, but not always, a perception of spinning) are symptoms that have many possible causes.
Sudden onset Dizziness or Vertigo could indicate a stroke or other medical emergency.
Please call 000 immediately, or attend the nearest emergency department, if there is any suspicion of stroke.
Particularly if you are also experiencing;

Weakness or numbness or paralysis of the face, arm or leg on either or both sides of the body

Difficulty speaking or understanding

Loss of vision, double vision, sudden blurring or decreased vision in one or both eyes

Headache, usually severe and abrupt onset or unexplained change in the pattern of headaches

Difficulty swallowing
The faster you act, the more likely you are to avoid permanent brain damage.
For other causes of Vertigo, an appropriately trained and equipped physio is an excellent person to go to for help.
BPPV;
This is a reversible condition; we can accurately diagnose and treat with the guidance of Videoscope goggles.
Vestibular dysfunction;
We may send you to a specialised audiologist and/ or ENT for further assessment if there are signs of vestibular impairment.
Causes include labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis.
People with vestibulopathy benefit from Physiotherapy to retrain gaze stability and balance.
Cervicogenic dizziness;
Sometimes dizziness is related to dysfunction in the neck (cervical spine).
This can improve with Physiotherapy.
Neurological disorders;
If there are indications that your symptoms are related to a Neurological condition, you'll be referred to a Neurologist for diagnosis.
Physiotherapy can help people with many Neurological conditions to improve/ maintain their movement and function.
